Setting Word Count Targets
Word count targets will help you scope your project and track progress across the story structure.
Planned Design
- Select your Book node
- Open the Properties panel
- Set your target word count
Form-Based Guidance
Different forms have typical word count ranges:
| Form | Typical Range |
|---|---|
| Short Story | 1,000–10,000 words |
| Novella | 10,000–40,000 words |
| Novel | 40,000–120,000 words |
Writan’s primary focus is short fiction, where every sentence must earn its place.
Current State
Word count targets are not yet implemented in the data model or UI. This feature will likely be added as a property on Book nodes.
